At the close of the political meeting here to-night a deputation from the mayor and council was introduced by Mr. Bews to the Commissioner of Public Works
(Hon. L. L. Furner), and requested him to lend them rails and sleepers to improve the boat harbor. The members asked when the £1,000 voted would be spent re pairing the old jetty. The Commissioner promised to get a report on the subject and giro it his favorable consideration. PORT AUGUSTA, March 11. Frederick William Good, of Port Augusta, agent, has been declared insol vent. In the Police Court this morning a lad named George Dale was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labor for stealing fruit. A preliminary meeting was held this evening at Port Augusta West, to fake into consideration the advisability of form ing the district into a municipality. TEROWIE, March 11 A 10-ton crane recently erected in con nection with the railway improvements, was successfully tested yesterday evening with 10 tons of steel rails, and a large crusher for Silverton, weighing about 8 tons, was afterwards transferred. The weather is warm and fine.
