PIONEERS' PICTURE.
MEN WHO MADE HISTORY.
Much has been said from time to time of the debt we owe to the pio- neers—the sturdy men of indomit- able courage who came to this new land in the early days of its discov- ery and carved out homes for them- selves and their families from the primeval forest. We today enjoy the results of their arduous toil, but are apt to forget the men to whom we are indebted. It is that the pre- sent generation and those who follow afterwards may have some idea of the manner of men they were who took part in the settlement of the district and the establishment of the city, that an effort is being made to secure for the public gallery the col- lection of photographs now in the possession of Mr C. Foyle. This was the object in view when the picture was compiled, but, unfortunately, it was never carried to finality. For the information of those interested a list of the names of the pioneers in- cluded in the picture is appended. Donations towards the purchase of the picture will be received by the Mayor or may be left at the "Stan- dard" office (says the Warrnambool "Standard"). This is an opportunity to give practical effect to our appre- ciation of what, we owe to the pio- neers.
