ROYALTY ON KANGAROOS.
To the Editor, "The West Australian"
Dear Sir.-Kangaroos have been declar ed vermin by the Government. But they still collect a royalty of twopence per head. This is virtually protection for the pest.
During the past four months, over 13,000 kangaroos have been shot on this station - and they are still very thick. For every large kangaroo there are about three others which are classed as 'joeys' and 'smalls.' These are not shot— they are not worth shooting — their skins being only worth 3/6 to 5/- per dozen less 2d. per head royalty. That 2d. per head would pay for ammunition, and as they are easier to skin and shoot than the large ones— they would all be shot. We have enough troubles now without having a plague of kangaroos forced on us by the Government. — Yours etc. G. H. WALSH, Manager, Mileura Station. Cue.
