POLICE COURT—ADELAIDE.
TUESDAY, JULY 18. [Before Mr. S. Beddome, P.M., and the Hon. W. Sandover, J.P.]
Bridget Menton, married woman, was fined
10s. for drunkenness, and on a charge of being an habitual drunkard, was sentenced to be im- <*> prisoned for one month with hard labor.
Michael Hanley, shoemaker, charged with dis turbing the peace artS good order of the Phoenix Hotel, was fined £1, and costs 7s. Ottoikkdbery, watchmaker, was charged on the information of James John levies, watchmaker, with embezzling 10s:, the money of bis master. Mr. J. W. Downer for the informant; Mr. Wadey far the defendant. Mr. Downer said he had found that the evidence which it had been in tended' to offer would not secure a conviction, and he that the information might be withdrawn. This was granted on payment of costs, 10s. ; John Rain., farmer, Was fined 20s. for resist ing P.C William Badford in the execution of his duty whUe arresting him for being drank. .t: fTiUfam Colb,ey, carter, was charged, on the information of~ Matthew Ford, Inspector under the )W of TEirte Ait, with cafxfing an excess .of weight on his dray. Fined 9s. and costs,. 19a. in .alk— Jhmes. Lokatt, carter, charged with a similar offence, had to pay 4s. and costs, 14s. ia aIL ' ;: William Ough, stonemason, and Charles Ough, butcher, were charged with leaving their aged and destitute mother without adequate means of support. Mr. W. V. Smith prosecuted. The defendant Charles, was ordered to pay 7s. per week with costs, £1 14s, and the other defen dant 10s. per week, with costs, £1 14s. Leeson Staples, ironworker, was charged with being indebted to Owen Jones, plumber, to the amount of £2 6s. Bi, one week's wages, in lieu of a week's notice. Mr. Bonald defended. The Information wasdjsmissed with costs, 7s. _ ' - Pah'tdc Gtenning, stoker, was charged on the information of Sarah Fitzgerald, with leaving without,adequate means of support his" illegi timate child, Alice Fitzgerald, at Brompton, on the 11th of July. An order was made for the payment of 7s. per week, first payment with -costs; £1 Is. in all, to be made forthwith. Lonisa ftooney, married woman, had to pay 10s; for- using indecent- language in Hindley-, .street on the ljth of Julv.
