? -At the monthly meeting of the Royal Society, of Western Australia; . held on Tuesday evening last, the business con sisted chiefly .of the consideration, and
adoption of the rules governing the award of the, newly inaugurated Royal Society's gold medal, the periodic award of which, it was hoped, would serve as a stimulus to scientific work in tins State. ' The president (Professor A. D. Boss) intimated that the date of this year's conversazione, June 27, coincided almost exactly with -that of the centenary of Kelvin. Appropriate apparatus, leetur ettes, and photographs specially obtained from England would make -the function memorable 'in the records of the society.' Owing to indisposition, Professor G. EL 'Nicholls was unable to attend to read his paper' oh' 'A 'New Amphipod,' and the. manuscript was handed over for printing in the society's journal. Mr. L-Glanert delivered- an addren on 'Scorpions.' The address was illustrat ed by living and -mounted specimens, and also by lantern slides, the Jaat of which served to show the comparative struc ture of Australian seorpione. The conclusion of the evening's pro gramme was also in the hands of Mr. Glauert, who furnished as an exhibit a tiny kangaroo. The specimen, taken from the paw of its shot mother, tad not been attached to -the nipple,- and so save evidence as to the one-time furious ly debated 'manner of birth: of the kan garoo. * ', ''-.'' - ? *'?
