SANITARY PRECAUTIONS.
TÏPHOID CASES.

Northam, January 22.
William Martín, a very old Settler, died on Saturday at the advanced age of 89 years. He leaves a large number of descendants, children, grand-children, and great-grand- children. Martin came to the colony in the earliest days under the Peel settlement sys- tem, and by sheer hard work had long ago succeeded to a position of moderate indepen- dence. He was held in the highest esteem here, having so many sterling qualities.
The fanerai of Pat Lennon took place yesterday, and was largely attended by his brother employees and many others, who took this opportunity of testifying to the respect
in which the deceased waa held.
The Government Geologist is now here in- vestigating the probability of securing an artesian water supply for the town.
The Town Council are bestirring themselves with regard; to tb* sanitary arrangements of the town, which are said to be in a condition discreditable to those concerned and a menace to the public health.
Surprise continues to be expressed that a cold Btorage car has not been pnt on this line. Seeing the immense quantity of perishable goods going forward to the fields, such a convenience is as necessary as on the Bunbury line.
