Sunday morning the American Consul was at the station to verify the articles, bat as (he steamer was delayed through stress of weather the men will not arrive until to-day. The FITZJAMES, quarantine hulk, caused some excitement on Sunday morning by setting her ensign at the main, which is the signal for Cus- toms officer or police. Suddenly the ensign staff aft was decorated by a white flag, and on one of the launches running alongside to learn the reason of the strange exhibition it was found that the head keeper had landed on Satur- day morning with the intention of returning to the hulk the same afternoon. When Sunday came and the keeper had not returned the solitary man on board thought some accident had happened, and determined to make a signal, but found the flags were locked up, so he was compelled to make some strange show to attract attention from the shore. The hulk's boat was found made fast to the jetty, and as there were no signs of the keeper the police were com- municated with to drag over the vicinity in case he had tumbled overboard when attempting to get into the boat. The Coobokg left Melbourne at noon oa the 17th with the wind from cast. Oa the 18th she reached Warmambool, and at 2.33 left again for MacDonnell Bay, which was reached at 5 a.m. on the 19th, sailing the same day for Rivoli. On the 20th she touched there, and at 6.30 p.m. was off Cape Northumberland with a heavy gale from the south-west. There was a very high sea running when she arrived at Kingston. She left again during a heavy gale, which continuad nearly to Gape Willoughby, which was pused at 9.30 a.tn. on Saturday. She then eteamad slowly up the Gulf so as to reach the roadstead at daylight oa Sunday, when she steamed into harbor. The Oasxutds passed. Gape Borda on Satur day morning after a very good paaaage of 82 days from London. Captain Lawrence reports starting from london on Jane 24, and having touched at Plymouth to embark her passengers she made another start on July 6. The anchor was weighed at 2 pan., and the tog Secret bang made fast ahead she was towed out of the Sound and at 3 pjn. cast off, made sail and proceeded to work to windward. On July 7at midnight final departure was taken from the lazard when the wind was from the WjS.W. veering to SJ3.W. and very light. On Jnly 8 the wind *i?™i«?fl to the northward and fine weather continued till July 10, when it hauled to north-east and remained moderate until the 21st. The north-east trades were entirely loit in 11? 29' N., 26? 17'W. On August 3 she crossed the equator in 21? 41' W., the wind ranging from south to south-east, and subsequently when the trades set in the wind was strong and .unsteady. The meridian of Greenwich was crossed on August 18 in 31? 47' south, and fine weather prevailed till reaching well to the southward. On September 11 there was a strong nor'-wester, which drove the vessel for a tune at tbenteof 13knots, when the wind suddenly shifted to south-west, and then for several days it was unsteady Doth in direction and force. On Saturday morning she passed Cape Borda, aad at midnight received on board the officers from the station. PUBLIC SHIPPING TELEGRASI3. Knrosvojr. Arrived—September 20. Coorong, steamer, Melbourne.
