PORT PHILLIP.

OUR Port Phillip intelligence is to the 12th Juue. It is altogether unimportant.

A requisition has been presented to J. V. L. Forster, Esq., calling' upon that gentleman to place himself in nomination for the vacancy created in the representation of Port Phillip by the resignation of Edward Curr, Esq. The requisition, which was at once acceded to, was numerously and influentially signed. Mr. Forster is represented as a gentleman independent of place, with a large stake in the pro- vince, and in point of ability, education, and family, as second to no member in the Legislative Council of

New South Wales.

The career of the notorious bushranger, Wilson, who lias so long infested the northern districts, has at length been put an end to, and his party captured. In a sharp affray with the mounted police, at the head of the Clarence Uiver (N.S.W.,) Wilson was

killed.

The London Insurers have paid the whole of the insurance due on the ship Mary, wrecked in Bass's Straits. The amount is stated at £1S,000.

Some time ago, when flour was at £12 per ton, a Melbourne merchant entered into an agreement for the purchase of 200 tons at that price. Since then, flour has advanced to £17 per ton, and this merchant has, within a few weeks, comfortably netted £1000 by his speculation.

Great complaints are made of the difficulty of procuring in Melbourne suitable premises either for mercantile pursuits or private residences. Several new arrivals from Van Diemen's Land talk of return- ing to that colony in consequence.-P. P. Patriot.

According to a recent census, the entire population of Melbourne numbers 10,974, and of the province of Australia Felix 32.S95.
