; 1 PLAN OF CAMPBELL TOWN SCHOOL

rJ\HE new school at Campbell Town, a

plan o£ which is pictured above, and the erection of which ls to com- mence shortly, will be situated on a level site of five acres, and will ac- commodate 160 scholars. The building will be of a "U" shape design, the cen- tral unit comprising three class rooms facing tho north-east. The south-east- ern wing will include the entrance for boys, boys' cloak room, head mastfr's office, and store.. In the north-western

wing there will be the girls' entrance, '

girls' cloak room, and teachers' common

room.

The class rooms will have large metal framed windows, and will be titted with built-in cupboards, for the use of the teachers, and hyloplate board. The cloak rooms will be equipped with metal rails, hooks and number plates, hand basins, and other conveniences. The building will be heated by an electrical panel-warming system, the panels ot which will be situated in the celling, and the heating elements thermostatically controlled to allow ot a uniform lem

pernturo being maintained during school hours. Electric light will be installed in each class room for radio and cine- matograph purposes. The construction will be in brick, with granolithic paved floors to corridor and cloak rooms, ¡ind Tasmanian hardwood flooring in the class rooms. The roofs will be insu- lated against the heat and cold by means ot special fabric, covered with corrugated iron, and will be masked by means of parapet walls to create- a fiat roof appearance. Architecturally the building has been designed in the mod

ern style, with a tower at the corner as Its dominant feature. The tall class brick panel in the tower will offer a. pleasing contrast to the marked hori zontality of the class and cloak rooms. Tho plans and specifications were pre- pared by the architectural branch ot the Public Works Department, to the de- sign of Mr. S. W. T. Blythe, assisted

by Mr. J. H. Walter, and approved by . the Government Architect (Mr. A. H. Tucker). The consulting engineer for heating was Mr. W. H. Schneider.
