PRISON STAFF COMMENDED;
ESCAPE FOILED
MELBOURNE, Tues.
"The staff acted correctly and promptly," Mr. A. R. Whatmore, Inspector-General of Prisons,
said today referring to the death of Kevin Joiner, 25, who was shot by a warder yesterday as he was escaping from Pentridge
Gaol.
Mr. Whatmore said he would discuss the attempted escape by Joiner and Maxwell Skinner with the Chief Secretary, Mr. Dodgs- hun. .
It was revealed today that a public inquest would. be held on Joiner as soon as police had pre- pared a brief.
Joiner's mother came to Mel- bourne from Yea last night; after being told of her son's death
Joiner was serving a life sen- tence for the murder of an ac- complice, following a robbery at a guest house at Mt. Martha.
