Bob Hope Takes Lead from Bing In Popularity
HOLLYWOOD, Friday.
I After five years' supremacy Bing Crosby has-been replaced las No 1 U.S. box office attrac- tion for 1S49 by Bob Hope.
A poll of British film exhibitors placed Anna Neagle as No. 1 box office attraction among Bri- tish film stars.
The polls conducted by the "Motion Picture Herald," a trade magazine, resulted:
United States: Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Abbott and Costello, John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, Betty Grable, Esther Wil- liams, Humphrey Bogart, Clark
Gable
Britain: Anna Neagle, Michael Wilding, John Mills Jean Sim- mons, Margaret Lockwood, Rich- ard Attenborough, Stewart Grainger, Michael Denison, David Farrar, Jack Warner.
Although she was among the leading ten box office attractions in the previous three years Ingrid Bergman, who has figured in a matrimonial upset, wasn't named in the first 25 selections for 1949.
