DINGO DESTROYED AT
Killer of 1,000 Sheep
A dingo, which had killed at least 1000 sheep, was recently captured and killed on the property of Mr. Don Tully, "The Springs," about seven miles from Captain's Flat.
For more than 12 months, residents in that district had suspected that a dog was responsible for the killing of sheep, which were usually found with either the throat savaged or the tongue and kidneys torn out.
Despite complaints, Queanbeyan Council was reluctant to move in the matter as it was not satisfied that the killer was a dingo. Action could only
be taken against a dingo but not against a dog, it declared.
All doubts, however, were resolved several weeks ago when an animal was caught in a trap but escaped leaving a front paw. Mr. E. Rose- warne, who lives on Mr. Tully'a pro- perty, finally sighted the dingo and gave chase with his dogs. The en- raged animal, hampered by its wounded leg, gave up the chase but succeeded in keeping the dogs at bay. Later, it took refuge in a pool of water where Mr. Rosewarne was eventually able to kill it with a stick.
