NEW SCHOOL
Opening At Campbell
Town
MODERN BUILDING
The official opening of the new State School at Campbell Town "took place yesterday. The weather was fine, und there was a large and representative at tendánce, including the Minister for Education (Mr. E. J. Ogilvie), the Min- ister, for Lands and Works (Major T. H. Davies), the Director of Education (Mr. G.- V'. Brooks); the Warden (Mr. C. Lyne), and councillors, Messrs. F. H. Foster, and N. Cdmpbell, M.'sH.A., the vice-principal of the Teachers' College (Mr. W. L. Grace), the District Inspec- tor of Schools (Mr. V. von Bertouch), and Inspector P. H. Mitchell. ; '
' The head teacher (Mr. S. Wellington) Introduced Mr. Ogilvie, and said the im- provement would . be an everlasting
monument.
Mr. Ogilvie said the new school had been erected -on modern methods , of construction, He'referred to the good work of'the Parents and Friends' As- sociation. .He. granted the children a halt holiday on Friday, and declared the building officially opened. "?! : .-.
Major Davies said his department would co-operate with improvements to the school grounds. '
Mr. Brooks said for a long time Camp-, bell Town had been In need of a new school. The old building had been erected CO years ago, audlmd been con demned_years ago. He paid tribute to tho excellent work ot teaching starts throughout the State.
Mr. von Bertouch also spoke.
t The Warden welcomed the: Ministers and members bf the Education Depart- ment. He said Improvements to school buildings were essential from the edu- cational and health points of view. ,
Tho Parents and Friends'"Association entertained visitors and school children at afternoon tea. A sports programme tor thc children was conducted by Messrs.-A. J. Brown,, G. O'Brien, and G.
Cashmore.
In the evening a large bonfire was lit, and the children were supplied with
fireworks.
