BOURBONS AT A FUNERAL

REMARKABLE TRIBUTE.

Seldom has Republican France seen a   greater assembly of members of its former Royal House than was there re-

cently.

Twenty-three princes and princesses, three archdukes and two dukes-all members of the Bourbon family-walk- ed through winding streets to the town's principal cemetery behind the simple and unwreathed coffin of the late Comte de Caserta, a direct descendant of Louis

XIV. of France.

The count died recently at the age of 93, following a long illness. He was the oldest of the present Bourbons. The Hapsburgs were represented by the Archduke Othon of Hapsburg. King Boris of Bulgaria was represented by Princess Eudoxio, and King Alfonso of Spain by his son, Don Jaime. They were accompanied by representatives of the Houses of Bourbon-Parma, Bourbon- Saxe, and the Orleans and Braganza lines of the family. The funeral service, which, according to the last wish of the deceased, was of the simplest charac- ter-"just as the poor are buried" was attended by many prominent French officials and was conducted by the Bishop of Nice.
