TRANSCONTINENTAL RAILWAY. THE PRELIMINARY SURVEY. Adelaide, April 11. Among the passengers by the R.M.S. Australia for Fremantle is Mr. John Muir, C.E., who will proceed to Kalgoor- lie to begin the preliminary survey for the proposed transcontinental railway. The party is to consist of five men, includ- ing Mr. C. H. Babington, C.E., and they will have the use of fourteen camels for the conveyance of stores and water, and a number of carrier pigeons will also be taken and despatched from time to time during the journey.
