Amazing Story Of Canine Courage And Endurance
amazing story of qanine courage and endurance was revealed last week by Hamilton electrical contrac tor, Mr. A. J. Moon (son of Mr. L. Moon, of Camper down) . Mr. Moon told the Hamil ton "Spectator" that his five year-old sheep dog, Fido, had escaped from a Port Fairy veterinary surgeon and walk ed 54 miles home in a day and a half. Fido was taken to the vet erinary surgeon for an opera tion on a badly swollen hind leg.. But the dog chewed through a 3ins. by 2ins. wood en bearer and pushed his way through the cyclone wire net ting of an enclosure to es cape. On the following day he was reported in the Byaduk district, but no trace could be found of him there by Mr. Moon. That night, however, he wandered into the Garton st. home of Mr. Moon and an nounced his arrival with loud barking. "He was very hungry and ate 3 lbs. of steak without saying 'thank you," his own er commented smilingly. "The veterinary surgeon considers it unusual for a dog to travel that distance be cause he would have no scent to follow." "His hind leg trouble has been cured and apart from swollen joints on the front legs and cracked pads on his feet, Fido shows no ill-effects of the journey," he added.
