Aborigine
actor's
bad deal
I LONDON, Fri. (S.S.):
I Ealing Studios are not per- mitted to pay Henry Mur- dock, aboriginal film actor, full Equity rates for his part in the Australian pic- ture "Bitter Springs."
The company said that they wanted to pay him the rate that the white actors were get- ting.
The Australian Department of Native Affairs, however, said that he must be paid only £6.
Murdock has a leading part in the film, and the situation is interesting film people in
Britain.
"Bitter Springs" is well on its i way to completion, and is likely
to get an Australian premiere before it is shown in Britain.
The operators hope to arrange a "bonza" Australian send-off before it gets its London show- ing towards the end of June.
