REMEMBERS HIS FATHER'S ADVICE

More than 30 years ago a young professional footrunner was advised by his father to make his objective the highest office in that sport.

Yesterday Mr J. W. (Wally) Beck- with was elected president of the Victorian Athletic League. He had fulfilled a lifelong ambition.

Mr Beckwith has been associated with professional footrunning for 38 years as a competitor, official, and handicapper. He succeeds Mr A. C. Moylan, who resigned on transfer to the country.
