Police Report.

Mary Cooper, a disciple of Xantippe, made her appearance, charged with diunken, riot- ous, and disorderly behaviour. Having imbibed sundry potations of that destroyer of good order, rum, she must needs display her prowess, by going to the house of a peaceful neighbour, and, without the least provocation, challenging her to fight. The latter finding remonstrance useless, was at last ne- cessitated to fetoh a constable. Nothing daunted, however, the Amazon attempted to thrash him, but she was after some difficulty lodged in the watch house, minus three parts of her gown. Women, who thus disgrace their sex, richly deserve being made an example of; which, being the opinion of the Bench, Mary was sent to the third class of the factory

for two months.

Mary Bates, for remaining from her service all night, was ordered to join the nbove for one month.

Thomas Robinson appeared on a summons for har- bouring a prisoner of tho crown. He pleaded guilty, alleged old acquaintance in extenuation, and was let off with the lowest fine of six dollars, and three and

ninepence for costs.

Elizabeth Green was next aocused of harbouring Elizabeth Gibbers, a woman who had absconded from the factory. She acknowledged that the female in question was in her house, but assured the Ma- gistrates that she would not have allowed her stay- ing íbero, had she not been led to "believe her free. There was some reason to credit this statement, and

she was accordingly fined in the lowest penalty of

six dollars.

Brh'get Donohoe, an assigned servant to W. Mac- pherson, Esq. was charged with very improper be- haviour, in consequence of which, Mr. M. being isent for, hastened home, and on his arrival found her ladyship abusing every body in the most violent and disgusting manner, and she had oven gone so far as to strike her mistress. All efforts to quiet her wera unavailing, and atlength it becamo necessary to place her in the custody of the police. She has been in the colony only a few wc-ks, and in conse- quence of her master humanely interceding for her, the Bench sent her for one month only to the third class of the Factory.

A- respectable publican in George-street was summoned to answer to an information charging bim with entertaining two female prisoners of the crown on Sunday last. A constable deposed that he took the women out of the defendant's bar at seven o'clock in the evening, where he found tliem drinking. On tho other hand, a gentleman who lodges in the house, and had charge of it on the day in question, swuro positively that from a quar- ter past six he was never out of the bar, and no such occurrence took place. Another lodger also declared that he was at the time alluded to in the bar parlour, and that no such circumstance could have occurred without his knowledge, but he was confident no person whatever was served with any liquor during the whole evening. Under all these circumstances therefore, the Bench gave the de-

fendant the benefit of the doubt, and dismissed the

case.

Richard Worthing, assigned to George Bunn Esq. was charged by his-employer with indulging in habits of drinking, and when remonstrated with on the subject, being extremely insolent. He was also suspected of being the person who had stolen some money from the office, some time since ; but of this there wa3 no proof. He was sentenced to be worked for ten days on the tread-mill, and then re- turned to the employ of government, with a recom- mendation that he be "sent to a distant part of the

country.

Thomas Jones, who had been lent to Doctor Wardell for the harvest, was brought up for haVing absconded from that gentleman's farm since last week. He alleged that he was starved and obliged to go ; but his tale was rather contradictory, and

the Bench sentenced him to an iron gang for six,

months.

Parrott versus Lane.-In this case the defendant appeared on a summons, to answer a charge of de- molishing twelve panes of glass, two sash windows, nnd divers others nic-mc tricks, together with calling the plaintiff very naughty names. The ladies in- dulged for a great length of time in the use of their vocal powers, much to the amusement and satisfac lion of the audience, who evidently listened with considerable glee. The defendant was eventually ordered to find sureties for her keeping the peace.

At the Hyde Park Police-office, on Wednesday, Thomas Connell, attached to tliB Commissariat de- partment, was charged with stealing two shirts the property of the Crown, from the stores where he was employed in Darling Harbour. They were found on his person by Corcoran the constable, who took him into custody, and the sitting Magistrate, Captain Wilson, sentenced him to bo transported for three years to a penal settlement.

Mary Gambelt stood arraigned for stealing four silk handkerchiefs and some trimming from the shop of Mr. Walter, on the Brick-field Hill. She went into the house much in liquor, and asked for a drink of water, which was supplied to her, and she sat down. He then observed her take the above articles, and secreto them very leisurely about her per-on, and allowed her to proceed unmolested till she had accomplished her purpose, nhen he sent for

a constable and gave her in charge-Committed for

trial. »

John Murphy was also fully committed on a charge of stealing a wheelbarrow, the property of

Mr. Thomas Smart.

Elizabeth the wife of William Moss, prayed for the protection of the Magistrates from the violence of her husband, who, she alleged, is in the habit of boating her most cruelly, as sundry bruises on her arms, iu part evidenced. In recrimination he charged her with beiug drunk every day during the last four months, save and except two only. One of the Ma- gistrates on the Bench happening to know the lady as a votary of Bacchus, she received an admonition, with advico to return home, and conduct herself soberly, and ia suoh a manner as to obtain her hus- band's «miles uwtead of his blow»,
