TESTING NEW FLYING BOAT.
Results So Far Satisfactory.
The series of searching tests to which the Widgeon flying boat, designed by Squadron leader Wacket, of the Royal Australian Air Force is being subjected at Richmond (N.S.W.), and which com- menced on Thursday, have so far pro- ceeded satisfactorily. In some quarters the announcement of the commencement of the tests was construed to mean that the machine had been in the air. The report on the matter did not justify any such assumptions. As a matter of fact, no attempts at the flight test will be made until all questions which will be put have been answered to the com- plete satisfaction of the authorities. When the trial flights do take place, the chief officers of all sections of the Air Force will be present, and the Minister for Defense (Hr Neville Howse, V.C.), who hopes that the machine will be the first to attempt the flight from Australia to England, will also be a witness other engagements permit.
