Improving the Grounds.

Mr Schwieger added that the 100 stalls in the hall of manufactures were applied for before the building was half completed, and not more than about 5 per cent of the standholdcrs had transferred from the in dustnal hall or the dairy machinery pavi lion, where they had exhibited in previous

The executive committee reported that the Licutenant-Govcrnor (Sir William Irvine) would officially open the show at noon on rViday September li The State luncheon would follow at half past 12 o clock, and the Commonwealth luncheon would be held on Monday, September 24
Improvements at the Ground
According to the report of the works committee satisfactory progress has been maintained with regard to the improve menta which are being earned out at the showgrounds Hie report added that the turnstile entrance the new motor hall, the hall of manufactures, the buggy shed, and most of the new bars about the grounds are nearly completed Tile stalls in the horse pavilion arc completed, but, owing to difhcultien in obtaining some of the steel work, the front brick wall and the last bay on the roof aro not yet finished Wet weather has m-eatly ham pered such -work as the laying of water mains and sewerage channels and road making, bul it is expected that these works will be completed in ample time for the show Much work has still to be done on the now grandbtand Delays in de livery of steel for the roof have retarded the work A large gang is now concen trated on the work, and great progresa is expected during the next few weks Hie electric reticulation and the provision of a gas supply to the centre of the grounds arc now in hand, and both facili tics will be available to exhibitors at allow

It was stated hy Mr Schwieger that an area of land in Lang's road had been bought for £1,201, for use as a motor park Tile entrance to the park would he situ ated almost opposite the middle of the Jersey cattle pavihon The park would accommodate between 500 and 000 cars
Recommendations by the works commit tee that the motor park be fenced, that ashed roadways bo laid down and perma ncnt crossings made, and that a special entrance gate be provided in Langs road for the convenience of those who travel to the show by motor-car, were adopted
The finance committee reported that the bank overdmft was £33,872, as against fJS, 100 last month Accounts amounting to £10 047 from the general fund, and £1,309 from the Jubilee Grandstand Trust 1 und, wei-e passed for payment
Mr Schwiegci reported that the profit on the annual horse parade and sale, held under the auspicea of the society in Jill}, was £27, compared with £28 on the com bincd horse and cattle sale last year Al

It was decided to refer to the finance committee a letter received from the Pm pire Development Union seeking support for a petition to the British Ministry favouring preferential trade within the Lmpire, and urging that special preference should hp.given to Australia
