GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.
FRIDAY, 29TH NOVEMBER.
PROCLAMATION.
By His Excellency the Right Honorable Sir John Young,
Captain General and Governor in Chief of the colony of New South Wales.
Whereas it is deemed expedient to alter and amend the tolls authorised to be taken at the several undermentioned places on the main roads of the colony, where tollbars have been esta- blished, viz. :-
Great Northern Road,
At Morpeth, Campbell's Hill, Black Creek, Camberwell, Bland-
ford, Scone.
Great Southern Road.
At Lansdowne Bridge, Cairn's Hill, Picton, Berrima, Towrang,
Jugiong.
Great Western Road.
At Annandale, Beckett's Bridge, Pitt Row, Hebersham
Brougton's Waterhole, Seventeen Mile Hollow, Bowenfels, Fryingpan, The Rooks, near Vittoria.
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the power in me vested, I, the Governor In Chief of the colony of New South Wales aforesaid, with the advice of the Executive Council, do, by this my pro- clamation, appoint and direct that from and after the first day of January next, the following shall be the rates of tolls to be demanded, levied, and taken at each of the abovementioned tollbars, that is to say :-
For every sheep, lamb, pig or goat, d . ; for every ox, or head
of neat cattle, Id. ; for every horse, mare, gelding, ass, mule, or colt, 2d. ; for every cart, dray, wain, waggon, or other such vehicle, drawn by one horse or other animal, 6d. ; and for every additional horse or other animal (above four) drawing such cart, dray, wain, waggon, or other such vehicle, 3d. ; for every gig, chaise, or other such vehicle, with two wheels, and drawn by one horse, or other animal, 6d. ; for every ditto, drawn by two horses, or other animals, 9d. ; for every coach, chariot, chaise, or other such, carriage, with four wheels, drawn by one horse or other animal, 9d. ; for every ditto drawn by two horses or other animals, Is. ; for every ditto, drawn by three horses or other animals. Is 3d. ; for every ditto, drawn by four horses or other animals, Is 6d.
Every cart, dray, wain, waggon, or other such carriage, all the wheels whereof shall not be less than 5 inches wide in the tire, and shall be constructed and fixed or applied in confor- mity with the provisions of the Act, 24 Victoria No. 13, shall be charged half the toll only, to which such cart, dray, wain, waggon, or other such carriage would otherwise be liable.
Every coach, chariot, waggon, or other carriage with four wheels, drawn by, or affixed, or tied to any cart, waggon, or other carriage, if unladed to pay the same toll as would have been paid for such coach, chariot, waggon, or other carriage, if drawn by two horses ; and if loaded, to pay double toll.
Every curricle, gig, dray, cart, or other carriage with two wheels, under similar circumstances, if unloaded, to pay as if drawn by one horse ; and if loaded to pay double toll.
In all cases where toll has been paid at any one turnpike gate, no toll shall be payable on the same account, and on the same day, at any of the turnpike gates within the distance of IO miles from the former, and all turnpike gates may be re-passed any number of times the same day without payment of any
fresh toll.
