Terror In Britain

) LONDON, October 26 (A.A.P.).-Thugs using coshes (lead and leather bludgeons) in vicious hold-up attacks have begun a wave of terror in Britain.

A double murder is

among the latest crimes

attributed to them.

The victims were an

elderly couple, Mr. and Mrs. George Peach.

They were lound in bed in their home in the village of Ashton. Northants. yes- terday with their heads bashed in. Mr. Peach was'

dead. His wite died a tew hours later.

Cosh gangs have attacked at least eight people in Britain during the past two nights.

Most of the attacks were in London.

Four of those attacked were playing cards in a house at Wimbledon. One, James Upton, 43, was gravely injured. His wife, daughter, and son-in-law also were taken to hospital.

They were bashed when they disturbed two hooded men who were ransacking

a room.

Another victim was an

elderly watchman at the famous Windmill Theatre.

Three men who attacked the licensee of the Marquis of Westminster Hotel, Vic- toria, London, with coshes last night came off second

best.

The licensee, Harry Law, formerly was a professional boxer. He and three cus- tomers fought the thugs for 15 minutes. Law knocked out one, and the others fled. Law chased one and trapped him in i taxi. He held the man until police arrived.
