Skilful Flying Saved Plane
And Passengers
-.-,
A pilot's skilful flying enabled ian Avro Anson plane to force
land near Warragamba dam 31 miles west of Sydney, yesterday
without injury to the four pas- sengers or damage to the air- craft.
Although both motors of the Anson cut out, the pilot, Captain G. Yorke, of Wollongong, landed the plane in a level paddock thrse miles south-west of Warragamba.
The plane belongs to South Coast Airways and was flying from Cowra to Mascot when the forced landing occurred at 4.30
p.m.
Other transport was arranged to bring the passengers to Syd- ney. Captain Yorke flew the Anson out of the paddock and arrived at Mascot at 7 p.m.
He said the Anson was flying at 3,000 feet when one motor cut out. The second motor cut out shortly afterwards.
"1 looked round the country- side, picked out a suitable pad- dock, and made an approach to it with both motors dead," said Captain Yorke.
"The engine trouble was caused by an air-lock in the main petrol
feed-line."
