CAPTAIN HURLEY

To Direct Antarctic Film

At the.end of 1936 Captain Frank Hurley! will go. J» .the Antarctic in order to obtain' scenes in a film which he has arranged to; make for Cinesound Productions. Thi man-, agement of Cinesound plans to spend,about, £ 30,000 on tlie picture, which will be a drama, dealing with an expedition to the South Pole. A great many of the scenes will be photo- graphed in the studios in Sydney, but In order to give the picture a really authentic quality Captain Hurley considers it essential that the exteriors be obtained on the ice-fields. The cameras and equipment will be transported there In a whaling sh.p.

Since last week Captain Hurley has been in Victoria putting the finishing touches to a descriptive film which he is preparing for the State Electricity Commission. This produc- tion centres round the power station at Yal-' lourn, and brings in the whole system by which electricity is distributed throughout Victoria, When completed, the film will be screened by the Education Department in the Victorian,

State schools.

Captain Hurley and Mr. Kenneth Wilkinson have now almost finished the script on which they are collaborating, under the auspices of Cinesound, and the film, which is' a drama based on natural phenomena in the Australian bush, will begin production in a few weeks' time. _____^____
