CENTRAL CRIMINAL COURT.
(Before Mr. Justice James.)
Mr. W. T. Coyle, K.C., Crown Prosecutor.
MOTOR CAR DRIVER ACQUITTED.
Septimus Hampton Herschman, a motor car driver, was charged with having, on July 19, feloniously slain Caroline Nowitzki.
Mr. L. C. Badham (instructed by Mr. W. M. Daley) appeared for the accused, who pleaded not guilty.
Herschman went into the witness-box and denied on oath that he was in George-street West on the night of July 19. He admit- ted that he had the car out that night, but not in the street in which the woman was
killed.
The jury found the accused not guilty, and he was discharged.
In September last Herschman was tried on the same charge before the Chief Justice at the Central Criminal Court. The jury on that occasion not being able to agree were discharged.
