SPEED RECORD.

Frenchman to Make Attempt

MONSTER FOUR-ENGINED CAR.

LONDON, March 27.

The Paris correspondent of the "Daily Ex- press" says that an unassuming Frenchman named Stapp, after two years' secret working in a garage on the outskirts of Paris, has built a monster motor car, with which he is con- fident that he will beat Sir Malcolm Camp- bell's speed record of 253.96B miles an hour.

The car weighs three tons, and looks like a cross between a rocket and a locomotive. It has three 800-horse-power Jupiter engines, working on a new turbine. These are built in the afterpart of the car. The bonnet contains only a GO-horse-power engine for starting the

car.

Stapp says: "Everything is French. I built the car myself. Theoretically it is capable of travelling at between 312 and 375 miles an hour, but I must make more tests on the La Baule sands before going to Daytona In May to make an attempt on the world's record."
