WHITE GIRL.
In "Pak-a-Pu" Den.
Police, who yesterday raided a suspected "Pak-aPu" den, were surprised to find an attractive young white girl "marking a ticket."
she was fashionably dressed, and appeared to
have some knowledge of how the lottery is
conducted.
Two white men were also on the premises. The girl, the white men, and a Chinese were arrested, and a number of squares of rice paper covered with strange Oriental signs were
seized.
The police raiding party comprised Ser- geants Small and Fagan, and Constables Wallace and Kelloway.
Inquiries last night revealed that "Pak-a- Pu" lotteries were becoming very populor. The "joints." or branch houses, are dotted all over the city and suburbs, pnd a "card" or ticket can be marked for as little as Cd. If the card is marked correctly, the purchaser of a sixpenny ticket (so the promoters claim) can sometimes win hundreds of pounds.
