BEAL ESTATE.

A QUIET WEEK.

After a fair amount of activity, extending over several weeks, the Real Estate market this week has been on the quiet side. It was the off week for indoor auctions, and those which were held, although largely attended, did not excite much interest In speculation. There were very few proper- ties sold, yet it could not be said that there was an entire absence of bidding, but cer- tainly most of the offers were considerably below tho vendors' ideas of value, and the properties were thus passed in for private treaty.

Business over the counter was better than it was under the hammer, but even sales by private treaty wore more irregular than they have been for several weeks. One good feature in the week's transactions was the number of inquiries for residences and investments. This is always a good sign. For instance, the popularity of the western suburbs is evidenced by the recent sales of Messrs. Hugh Duff and Co. (A. T. Carpenter), who in the past couple of weeks have had an excellent demand for Burwood property, and have been successful in dealing with properties of the larger type in this suburb. Amongst others, this firm has completed contracts for residences fronting Liverpool road for £7000, Wyalong-street for £4500, Liverpool-road for £4200, Wentworth-road

for £4000.
