BLAZE AT ANNANDALE.
IN A CANISTER FACTORY..
Tho Un cnuislor factory of F.-Robertson and Co., Neb-on-slreo*-., Annandale, was the scene cf a disastrous flro lute last night.
The outbreak ongiuated m the printing Bhop, inU. was tirst noticed by two passers-by, Messrs. Kennedy and Hawkins, who Immedi- ately .ammo-td the brigade, and then ren- dered good service by utilising a garden 'hose In a successful effort to keep the lire out of two adjacent cottages, the roofs of which had already caught from the sparks. '
. All the stiitioi.s of the district were Imme- diately turned out, and Leichhardt and Mar- rickville detachments soon Lad lines of hose to work. The fiemes had meanwhile gamed a good hold of tho fu-tory, and threatened to destroy the wholo of the premises, and to spread to a neighbouring torraeo of houses. This was prevented after a couple of hours hard work. A second "good save" stood to the credit of the lire brlgado in the one night.
Mr. Robertson, tho proprietor of tho works, stated that he would be unable to estimate his losses till daylight, but he feared that they stood at several thousands, though be bopcu that tho Insurances would cover the damage. Tho Union and United insurance companion were interested. Tho chief loss would include a largo set of valuable printing and llLho grapblc machines, lind the completo destruc- tion of an extensive stout ct finished caristers.
