'A typewriter weighing 14 tons is one of the notable exhibits at the Panama Exhibi- tion. This monster, which took two years to construct, and which cost £20,000, is 21ft. - wide and 15ft. high. To operate the machine manually would be a fatiguing exercise, not only on account of heavy pressure that would have to be exerted in order to press down tbe keys (which are
7 inches in diameter), but also because of
the distance separating them. Electric power is used, therefore, and by means of a small standard keyboard, typing can be done as easily as on an ordinary machine. This typewriter is just 1.728 times as large as the standard size, otherwise it is the exact reproduction of a well-known make. It will be used for typing news bulletins on sheets of paper 9ft. wide.
