WAGGA'S SOLDIERS PRAISED.
Major Holmes has written to the Mayor of Wagga as follows :-" Sir, - Having just returned invalided from the campaign in South Africa, I take the earliest opportunity of expressing my admira- tion at the gallant work and plucky conduct of the men sent by your town and district as portion of the First Contingent, which was, during the greater part of the campaign, under my immediate command. I cannot tell you in a letter all I wish to say about their behaviour, so I take the liberty of asking you to invite me to be present at any official welcome which you may decide upon on their return, so that I may be enabled to bear full testimony to their personal bravery. I refer particularly to Sergeant Edney, Sergeant Palazzi, and Private T. Williams. I would like also to pay a tribute to the memory of the late Private J. Palazzi, than whom no
braver man went to South Africa."
