I ROZELLE AND BLACKWATTLE
BAYS.
The question of the nuisance ansing from tho waters of Rozelle and Blackwattle bays again came before the Glebe Council at its meeting on Monday night, this time owing to a large quautity of coi - respondenco on the subject A petition Bigned by 72 ratepayers resident at Globo Point was received bringing under the council's notice the fact that the stench wa so intolerable on two or three occasions of late that it necessitated the closing of all the windows in their residences The council was i asked to use its best endeavours to discover the
cause, nntl urge upon the Government to have the matter remedied The members of the ioxteth Church Literary and Debating Society also wrote,

said one cause was the sewer running between Annandale and tho Glebe emptying itself into the bay between the Glebe and Annandale wharfs, and which to all appearances was never cleaned out
So bad was the Blench that peoplo had refused to patronise the society's excursions starting from the Globe Point Wharf Correspoudeuce that had passed bet»con Alderman Williamson aud tho Health Board on the subject was also read Alder- man Williamson bad been endeavouring to get the
Health Board to take action, and had written several letters pointing out that not only were people com- pelled to shut their windows, but the men employed on the ferry boats had been made ill through the had odour, while thousands of fish and prawns could be seen lying dead on top of the water The colour of the water was of a whiteish hue extending below the Glebe Island Bridge The Health Board forwarded the letters to the council, and had informed Alderman Williamson that ho should have
brought the matter under the notice of the local
authonty The reading of the lcttem caused con i stdcrable discussion Soveral of the aldermen stated

residents about the nuisance The inspector for the district also forwarded a sp«mal report on the sub- ject The council, on the motion of Alderman Wil- liamson decided to hold a special meeting cn the subject aud also, oa tho motion of the samo alder- man it was decided,-" That the council authorise the Mayor to write immediately to the department in charge of harbours and livers calling its uttention to the state of Rozelle and Blackwattle bay s, and the dangers to public health and detriment to property caused by the bad smells and requesting it to take immediate action to ascertain the cause , und that a copy of the resolution be sent to Messrs Hoguo and Mahony members for the district, calling their attention to the same, and asking them to use their influence with the department in getting the matter attended to " ^_
