LATTB3UQG 0O3Q0Z'? O' In. Tam fortnightly meeting of the Plattsburg Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening. Present--Alderman Richard son (in the chair), Meskle, Simpson, Wilkinson, and B'larris. The minutes of last regular and special meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Letter to the Under-Colonial Secretary's office, re the Reoreation Reserve, urging on the completion of purchase, and ap. pointment of trustees. To Mrs. J. E. Williamson, sympathising with her under the irreparable loss of her late husband. To Mullen and Baker, relative to taking legal action in the Supreme Court, to test the validity of the by-laws. From the Lands office, Sydney : bir, I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 25th instant, respecting a previous application of the 11th instant, for the sum of £1000 for the improvements of a recreation reserve in the borough of Plattsburg and Wallsend. In reply, I have to inform you that the land in ques tion has not been finally resumed for recreation purposes, and pending a settle ment the application must remain in abeyance. (Signed) Yours, etc., C. OLrvER. From Council Clerk, Lambton, stating that the Lambton Council approve of the action taken by the Plattsburg Council rc the Vehicle Inspector v. W. W. Johnson, and that the LambtonCouncil intends to ,support the Council in any action they may take. From Mr. Kidi, re the assessment on property in Nelson-street.-Referred to Mr. Banfield. From Mr. Samuel Holmes, asking the -Council to pay over the sum of £8 on account of his contract in Neleon-street to Mr. G. Froome, for work done in shift ,ing verandahs; also authorising Council to pay over all money due to him to Joseph Holmes and Oliver, who are joint contractors for the work in Nelson-street. From the secretary of the Wallsend band, asking Council to make a subscrip tion to assist the bandsmen to pay off the debt now standing against them. From Mrs. Williamson, thanking the Council for their kind expression of sym pathy. Alderman HARRIS moved-" That the -ontgoing letters be approved of, and that the incoming ones be received and dealt -with." Seconded by Alderman MEIELE, and carried. Alderman MEIRLE moved-" That the request of S. Holmes, contractor for Nel son-street, be granted." Seconded by Alderman StrrsoN, and carried. Alderman RICHARDsoN gave a report 'relative to what took place at the confer e- nce held at Lambton on Tuesday last, .with reference to testing legality of the Council's by-laws. Alderman MEIKLE moved-" That the "report of Alderman Richardson re vehicles plying for hire be received as satisfactory." Seconded by Alderman WrLKNSoN, and easried. Alderman HARRIs moved-" That the Cooncil Clerk be instructed to write to the secretary of the Wallsend Brass Band, saying the letter is under consideration. Seconded by Alderman SIasPsoN, and ,carred. OVERSEER OF WORKS' REPORT. This stated that labour had been employed in completing improvements to the Recreation Reserve, the cost of which would be charged to the Reserve account, when the money had been obtained from ,he Government. According to instruo rtions, repairs to the Minmi road had com menced, and in order to complete this "work at an early date, arrangements had been made with John Lowe to pay him As 6d per load for all rubble, and employ two drays. With reference to the con tract in Nelson-street, three additional ,chains had been put down. INSPECTOR OF VEHICLES' REPORT. With reference to the complaint of Mr. ;David fenkins, bus driver, it appears that ;there were three 'busses on the stand, viz., one of Mr. Brown's, who was only going back to Lambton, but was not sent away by the time-keeper as stated in Mr. Jenkins' letter. Instead of only going to Lambton, he ran right through to New ecastle. This was the ground of com plaint, so far as he (the inspector) could understand the case. The time keeper had nothing to do in the matter, and no blame could be attached to him, but would in future, make Mr. Evans be more careful. Both reports were re -ceived. Alderman WILKINSON moved-" That h~e Council Clerk be instructed to writet 'the Inspector of Vehicles at W aaisend and Lrambton, asking them to make an effort to prevent 'busdrivers stopping at the stands until the next 'bus overtook them. Seconded by Alderman RABRIS and .oairied. FINANCE COMMITTEE'S REPORT. 'Alderman WILKINSON moved-" That "the report be received and adopted by this Council, recommending payment of the following accounts:-William Davis, £4 4s.; E. Groves, £4 4s.; John Lowe, £1i SIs. 2d.: 8. Homes, £11 16s. 5d.; Overseer of works, £5 15s. 4d.; Horald ad Adevo Scte, £1 13s.; expenses: stamps, o&c., £2 ,t1,:; total, £42 14s 5d. Seconded by Alderman Sl?usow and a skied. Alderman MElKLE moved-' That sum. rmonses be obtained for the recovery of all a.mounts due to the Council, without arespect to persons, after the expiration of :the time allowed by proper notice." : Seconded by Alderman WILKINsoN and ,oarried. - ThenCouncil then rose.
