Death.— On Wednesday morning tho ^2nd ultimo, William Scott (lied at his. residence, near Shepiir.istown. Decoased came to Adeliug with 1ns pare-ts when quite a boy, aud spt-nt the greater part of -his lifo in this district. Ho was ou'y '42 years ol ago at time of death, a id had been a great sufferer for the past three
years, being a martyr to tutu mono* ful disease iinown as 'miuer's con sumption, ' which is caused by_ tho dust from working in dry mines. Deceased was married, and reared a family of eight children. His wife predeceased nim about five years. The funeral took place on Thursday aud was largely atteuded. The Rev. E. J. Spencer read the burial servico at tbe grave. Mr. C. Passlow was undertaker, nud carried out his duties efficiently. We tender our sympathies to members of the family over their bereavement. Band of Hope — On Monday evening last the regular meeting of
the Band oi Hope was held in the Methodist Church. Alter the formal business had been . transacted, a splendid programme of musical items, songs, duets, and recitations was gone through in a highly cred itable manner. The entertainment was eqtial'to a first class concert. Harvest Festival.— Ou Sunday last the annual Harvest Festival ser vices were conducted iu St.- Paul's (Auglican) Church. The church was very nicely decorated 'with cereals, bruits, vegetables, flowers aul greenery; but the supply this year was not eo good as on previous oc casion^ the usual- enthusiasm over tho event being slightly lacking- ] Tho Rev. E. J. Spencer conducted the services both morning and even ing. fair congregations beiug presont, and the choir saug very creditably sacred pieces suitable to the purpose. Fike Relief.— On Friday last a meeting of the Fire Relief committer was heid at Mr. Ai'-eu's residence. The report Hbowed that fourteen , ol thejapplicauts had purchased build ing aud fenciug materials, and the accouuts were passed for payment. Mining.— On Tuesday last Mr, W.
H. val . mining expert, completed his inspection of the Kurrajong nno Lady Mary mines, which are undei offer to the company he represents On Saturday Mr. Vale visited the Reefer battery, and was very court eously shown round by Mr. Ritchie. On Tuesday Gibraltar and the Oold Estates mines were visited, and the same courtesy was shown at each place as was extended to him by Mr. Ritchie. Mr. Vale left on Tuesday afternoon to inspect a miue near Coama. The decision, thereforo, of his company regarding the Adelong miues will not be known until Mr. Vale returns to Melbourne. Peculiar Occurrence.— Mr. J. G. MeLaughlan has a red cow, which was found with a calf thirteeu days ago. The cow was brought home, aud has been milked ever since. The animal did not milk well, and the reason could not be understood, until Wednesday morning, when she had another calf, just 15 days after the first one was calved. This is something for theorists to wcik upou.
