SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

ADELAIDE, Thursday.

Dr. Cockburn was persistently questioned in the Assembly in reference to the Government proposal to abolish tho break of gauge between Adelaide and Broken Hill by laying a third rail. It was stated that the Government poposal was in opposition to the Railway Commissioners, who opposed the working of mixed gauges. The Government will not   do anything in the matter till the series of resolution are carried by the House. The Coroner's Bill   passed ita third reading. The Water Conservation Bill was passed through committee. It was made retrospective, so far as the reduction of interest upon advances is concerned.
