Rifle Shooting.

The competition for the National Rifle Association's Medal was con oludedlast Wednesday afternoon, and resulted in a tie between C Stoyles and H Young, each sooring 22* points, H Hex being close up with 217. The shoot off will take

place next Wednesday arcernoon, the conditions to be one sighter (not to count) and five shots at 600 yards. In view of the approaching match with the Bungendore Rifle Club for the 'Charlton Shell,' a scratch match will be held next Wednesday to enable the selectors to pick the team to represent Braidwood. The following shooters are requested to

J Stoyles, A Campbell, P Norn Chong, W Collins, C Stoyles. H Young, H Rex, F Stein, L Gal thorpe, M Abrahams, W Hanna ford, C Brown, t- Corcoran, and W Mayberry. The conditions of tbe match are two sighters and 8 shots at 500 and 600 yards.

Monday next will be observed as 'Wattle Day.' No doubt suitable instruction will be imparted to the children, Isaac Albert Shannon, of Cooma, has been gazetted returning officer for the electorate of Monaro. Mrs. T. Tarlinton and Miss F. Tarlinton, of Fairview, Oobargo, are at present holidaying in Braid wood. Mrs. J. F. Hanecembe is a daughter of Mrs. Tarlinton. They motored from Moray* on Sunday. '

A communication from the Works Depart ment to tbe Yarrowlnnga Shire Oouncil states that it is not considered desirable to retain Yarrowlumla as a shire, tbe depart ment being of opinion that £3000 is the lowest revenueaabire should have. McCurley took place on Wednes day afternoon, the cortege being a lengthy one. The death occurred on Tuesday of Mr G- Cole & very oldlresident of Major's Creek. The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon. People who sought at the local post office yesterday morning to ob tain their mail at 9 o'clock were sadly disappointed. It was ascer tained that the train had run off the rails at Bundanoon, and was some four hours or so late arriving at Tarago. Consequently the mail did not arrive at Braidwood until about 10 minutes to 12. Tbe mails to Araluen were despatched per motor car. The work of preparing the holes and the erection of guards in con nection with the tree planting scheme, which has been undertaken by the Progress Association, has been commenced in Duncan-street, where it is intended to plant 40 trees— 20 on each side.

Mr. Holmes, of Major's Creek, died yesterday. He has been en gaged in mining at Major's Creek for some years, with his father be fore him. They opened some of the principal mines at the Creek, which were worked for several years until the reefs ran out, after being worked to a depth of some three or four hundred feet. His father died some tim ago.
