OLD HOME BURNT
Woman Injured in Saving Cats
LILYDALE, Friday. — A five-roomed dwelling at Mooroolbark built on English lines, belonging to Miss Edna Walling, a well-known landscape artist, and origin- ally planned to be the nucleus of an Eng- lish village, was destroyed by fire on Thursday. Miss Walling had left the fire- side for only a few minutes to supervise work in the garden when she noticed smoke and flames issuing from the bed- room window.
While the fire was burning, Miss Crouch, who was assisting Miss Walling, rushed in and broke a window-pane with her bare hands to liberate two cats which otherwise would have perished. Her hands were severely cut, and she had to receive medical attention at Lilydale.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
