The Heath of nn old resident of the district iii the person of Mrs. Jane Jenktns, the wife of Mr. William Gordon Jenkins occurred at H.iwkes dale oh Wednesday lost.- The de ceased arrived frciiii Ireland in the

early sixties, arid resided in the neighbourhood of Myamyn up till a few year's rigo, when slw and her hus band went to livo at Hawkesdale near her daughter, Mrs. J. Toogood, jun. She had been married twice, her firpt husband being Mr. W. Wal she, by whom sho had four children, two boys and two girls. She estab lished the Foresters' hotel at Mya myn, in connection with which, in tho early days, when carriers made Myamyn a camping spot, she car lied on a general store. Shortly after her second marriage she moved to Portland, where she conducted the Victoria hotel, until it was closed by ii local option poll. She saw the ris? aiul progress of the district, and 1 eing a woman with ii marvellously retentive memory; could relate many interesting incidents of the ' early days. For the past twelve months she had been in indifferent health and at the age of SU years she pass ed away as stated. The remains were interred at Hawkesdale on Fri day.
