BIG POLICE HAUL OF MOTOR TYRES
>5 Men Arrested
With the arrest yesterday of 5 men, detectives claim to have cleared up several large robberies of motor tyres, wheels, and accessories.
Last month motor wheels valued at £60 were stolen from Symons and Fowler Pty Ltd, Newmarket, and tyres and accessories valued at £60 from the garage of Grant and Thompson Pty Ltd, Newmarket. On May 22 Hardirnan's garage, Coronet st, Newmarket, was entered and property valued at £400, chiefly wheels from several horse transport floats, was stolen.
On Tuesday last a detective,recog- nise tyre marks on the road in'Albert st, Port Melbourne, as similar to those left by a car used to remove the stolen goods from Hardirnan's garage. Later detectives raided a house.in Port Melbourne, where they found Hardirnan's tyres and others from the 2 earlier robberies.
Investigations also led to discovery at Black Rock of 2 stolen motorcars which had been stripped.
The police have a drilling machine, 3 electric motors of ¿, 1, and 2A- hp; and about 20 motor tyres, for which owners are wanted. Det-Sgt Abbot, Flemington, will arrange for these goods to be viewed.
