NEW HOME FOR REFUGEES
On Monday 17 refugee children from
Berlin will begin life anew when they are taken to Larino a home in Balwyn which has been specially prepared for them by members of the Australian Jewish
Welfare Association who are responsible for bringing them to Australia
The association will be entirely respon- sible for the maintenance and upbringing of the children all of whom have been separated from their parents In some cases it is hoped that later on the families will be reunited but in cases where this is not possible the children will be taught some occupation that will make them self
supporting
The children have travelled here in the Orama which is due to arrive in Mel- bourne to morrow night in the charge of Dr Erna Falk who was a children s spe-
cialist in Berlin She will be matron-in- charge at their new home
The home has been redecorated the boys dormitories being furnished in green and the girls dormitories in pink There is a study room as all the children will
attend the local State school and an isol ation ward for cases of sickness The womens auxilary is planning many out- ings and pleasures for the children
The St ilovius debutantes will hold a return dance in the banquet hall Victoria Palace on Tuesday at 8 30 p m Misses E Kelleher (JW1532) and B McNamara are the honorary ticket secretaries
